Our lives are defined by the patterns we see

Our very lives are defined by the patterns we see. The patterns we see shape our reality. Thus, from a human perspective, it is not controversial to say “perception” is as much part of “what is” as Newtonian dynamics.

Material science attempts to disregard this as observer bias, which is suitable for experiments privileging a material world. However, should the “material world” be the ultimate frame of reference and truth for what is real? If we are all human beings, why should we outsource meaning into solely the material dimension of reality instead of bringing as much attention to the perception of matter itself.

From this view, archetypal cosmology is an important bridge as it defines archetypal first principles which link perception and matter together. In this sense archetypal cosmology is the essential theoretical bridge which re-unites material phenomena with “subjective” psychological perception.

For the average person, this can be seen in a simple example with regards to the archetype of Saturn. Saturn shows up as minimalism and restraint, which applies to both a way of being (ie. a severe individual) as well as an aesthetic (ie. a minimal interior).

To me, archetypal cosmology has been that essential bridge, and I am open to searching for any other methods which unite spirit and matter as concisely.

The big conversation of the past two centuries has been about amplifying material outcomes. And yet we live in a world that is rife with addiction, suicide, and depression. Despite massive increases in material capacity, human discontent remains as pervasive as it was in the Buddha’s time, 2000 years ago. Thus, it is clear that when it comes to “human flourishing,” amplifying material outcomes is not the only lever. What does it mean to have a thriving civilization? If mastery over the material domain were the only requirement, then yes maybe we should orient our notion of truth towards solely the material dimension of existence.

However, it is clear that value for a human life comes at the intersection of a material and spiritual reality. It is for this reason that archetypal cosmology is able to hold the weight of a modern society searching for meaning as well as material progress.
